NEW DELHI: Upset over the line of treatment of an Ayurvedic sexologist, a 22-year-old patient pumped over half-a-dozen bullets into the doctor at Gole Market here on Sunday. The accused was overpowered by the area residents and handed over to the police. Thirty-four-year-old Rajesh Abbot, who ran a clinic at Paharganj in Central Delhi, had just got off his Maruti Wagon-R at Gole Market around 11 a.m. when a young man fired at him till he collapsed on the ground. Hearing the gunshots, the area residents, including an off-duty constable, Brijesh, rushed to the spot and overpowered the assailant. Dr. Abbot was rushed to Lohia Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The accused was handed over to the police. During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Javed Ali, a resident of Nandnagri in North-East Delhi. He told the police that in 2003 he contacted Dr. Abbot for treatment of a sex-related problem. Dr. Abbot prescribed some medicines, but they did not help. He met the doctor again and complained that the medicines were ineffective, at which he was prescribed some more medicines. As time passed, Dr. Abbot allegedly started avoiding Javed, whose condition was deteriorating fast. Subsequently, he slipped into depression. Javed then decided to kill Dr. Abbot and started trailing him to know about his daily routine. He learnt that Dr. Abbot was a resident of Rajouri Garden and used to park his vehicle in a parking lot at Gole Market, from where he would take a cycle-rickshaw to his clinic.Javed allegedly procured a firearm and on Sunday reached the parking lot. As soon as the doctor got off his vehicle, Javed confronted him and fired several rounds at him. The police have registered a murder case and are trying to trace the person from whom Javed had obtained the firearm. © Copyright 2000 - 2006 The Hindu |
